Orange the World: 16 Days of Activism


The United Nations agencies in Turkey are organizing several events within the scope of Secretary General’s UNITE campaign calling to Orange The World during 16 days of Activism: 

  • An open-air lighting exhibition dedicated to ending violence against women will be opened on 25 November 2019 at the Seğmenler Park in Ankara. The exhibition titled Light the Dark will be open for visitors from 25 November until 10 December at Seğmenler Park. The event is co-organized by UN Women, Ankara Metropolitan and Çankaya Mayors and the Swedish Embassy.
  • DJ & Dance Performance as part of the Light The Dark Exhibition during the 16 Days of Activism at Seğmenler Park (in Turkish language) on 29 November 2019, organized by UN Women. Lilith will play a deep house music set from 19:00 to 22:00, Cansu Ünal will perform the dance piece “Seeking and Empowerment” at 19:30.
  • ILO Conference “Ending Violence and Harassment in the World of Work” on 4 December 2019, Grand Ankara Hotel.Violence and harassment against women in the world of work is a serious abuse of women’s rights, affecting women’s opportunities for fulfilling and rewarding work. It is a major barrier to achieving equality between women and men at work and it has a major impact on women’s safety, health and wellbeing at work.

    In June 2019, ILO adopted a new Convention and accompanying Recommendation to combat violence and harassment in the world of work which recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment. The UN Agencies in Turkey welcomed the ILO’s new Convention and organizes the Conference on the new Convention led by ILO on the 4th of December in Ankara.

    The Conference aims to promote understanding and cooperation for measures described in the new Convention among public institutions, social partners, civil society organizations as well as UN Agencies for elimination violence and harassment in the world of work.

  • Orange the World  Summit will take place on 11 December at  Dokuz Eylül University in Izmir with participation of UN representatives and students of 10 universities and 3 high schools.
